With the signing of the grant agreements, the winners can now truly set out to bring their ideas to life. In the coming weeks, we’ll introduce those who have taken the leap into entrepreneurship. Today, we’re sharing the story of Mátyus Emese, who is building cozy guest houses in Cătrușa, Covasna County, making the most of the stunning natural surroundings.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business!
The idea was born from a piece of land I inherited in Cătrușa. When I discovered the funding opportunity, I immediately knew it was the right moment to bring this dream to life. For me, building guest houses is not just a business venture. I also work in agriculture, and I want my children to see that life can offer different opportunities. I envisioned a place where families, friends, and young people can relax and create lasting memories together.
What qualities are essential for someone who wants to start a business in tourism?
Empathy is the most important. You have to be able to create experiences for others and shape an environment where guests can truly relax and recharge. If you lack that genuine desire to bring joy and create memorable moments, it’s very hard to succeed in tourism.
How did you first hear about the SES Programme, and how will you use the funding?
I first came across it on TikTok, then looked into it in more detail online. It felt like something that fit me perfectly, so I decided to give it a try. I’ll use the funding to purchase three prefabricated cabins and transform them into modern, comfortable frame houses. These will become the foundation of my business.
In what ways will your business give back to the community?
For 11 years, I worked at Böjte Csaba’s daycare center, and I still return as a volunteer. Supporting the Saint Francis Foundation is close to my heart. I want to continue organizing children’s camps, bringing gifts at Christmas, and actively supporting the community. For me, it’s important that my business creates not only economic value but also meaningful social impact.
What advice would you give to others who want to start their own business?
Take advantage of every funding opportunity. Don’t be afraid to start. If you follow the rules and work with clarity and determination, you will succeed.
